German Halite & Selenite!
German Halite & Selenite!
Halite with Selenite from the closed Sollstedt Potash works, Bleicherode, Harz Mountains in Thuringia, Germany.
This locale was a Potash Mine that started in 1899, closed in 1990 and reopened in 1998 for underground waste storage and then again, as a potash mine but with solution mining with no further underground workings. Between 1954 and 1990 it was known as Karl Liebknecht Potash Works. Since 1998 all mining at this locale has ended.
This mine used to be 700 m deep where the German scientists developed the V2 rocket in the vast underground labyrinth. Now the mine is being back filled for waste storage never to be opened again! All of the specimen from the first find 20 years ago went for five figures!! This piece is now available for only $1200 shipped.
There are less than 200 specimen of these Halite/Selenite specimen that came out of the ground! The Halite and Selenite specimen are both short and long wave uv reactive while the petroleum included Selenite hourglass phantoms are also phosphorescent!
